Tainio to miss out

Teemu Tainio is not expected to play in Sunderland’s Carling Cup third-round tie at home to Northampton tomorrow night.

The Finland international midfielder injured his shoulder in the Wearsiders’ 2-0 derby win over Middlesbrough and is unlikely to be involved in the game.

Two-goal hero Michael Chopra, who replaced Tainio just before half-time on Saturday, might be struggling with a dead leg, while striker Kenwyne Jones (knee) and goalkeeper Darren Ward (back) remain on manager Roy Keane’s injury list.
