Carrick sidelined for up to six weeks

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been ruled out for four to six weeks after breaking a bone in his foot.

The 27-year-old England international limped out of United's Premier League defeat at Liverpool.

Carrick missed this morning’s training session for the start of United’s Champions League defence against Villarreal tomorrow night but now looks set to also miss the game against Aalborg and is doubtful for the visit of Celtic on October 21.

In addition, record signing Dimitar Berbatov is a major doubt for tomorrow’s Champions League opener against Villarreal at Old Trafford after suffering a knee injury in the defeat on Merseyside.

Wes Brown (knee) should feature, while Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to be on the bench as he makes his long-awaited comeback from ankle surgery. Paul Scholes is suspended.
