Brazil's woes continue
Brazil’s struggles continued on Wednesday as a goalless draw with 10 man Bolivia in a South American World Cup qualifier increased the pressure on under-fire coach Dunga.
Brazil beat Chile 3-0 in Santiago on Sunday, but despite playing against 10 men for over half an hour, Dunga’s side were greeted with a chorus of boos at the final whistle.
Dunga’s side sit four points behind leaders Paraguay after recording a fourth draw in eight games, while Bolivia remain at the foot of the table with five points.
At the Joao Havelange Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Bolivia had the first chance as Ronald Garcia’s speculative effort was saved by Julio Cesar before before the Brazil goalkeeper was called into action again to turn away Marcelo Martins’ shot.
At the end of the first half Brazil were booed off the field, but were handed a boost nine minutes after the break as defender Ignacio Garcia saw red following a strong tackle on Robinho.
But despite the numerical advantage Brazil struggled to breakdown the visitors and created their first real threat with 21 minutes remaining as Robinho’s powerful left-footed shot was saved by Carlos Arias in the Bolivia goal.
With 15 minutes remaining Ronaldinho was booed as he was replaced by Elano, who saw his free-kick saved by Arias soon after replacing the Milan playmaker.
In injury time, Julio Baptista had a chance to snatch all three points but saw his close range header saved by Arias.
