Drogheda snatch draw at Sligo with late penalty

Drogheda needed a late Shane Robinson penalty to snatch a point as they came from behind three times in a thrilling game at the Showgrounds.

Rovers caught Drogheda cold to take an eighth-minute lead.

Richie Ryan's first-time volley from Romu Boco's left wing cross came back off Jamie Ewings' crossbar and Brian Cash followed up to shoot home his second goal of the season.

Cash saw a shot trickle wide after another superb Boco cross on 31 minutes before Drogheda levelled three minutes later when central defender Shaun Maher headed home Ollie Cahill's free-kick from the right.

But within a minute Rovers were back in front when Cash met yet another terrific delivery in from the left by Boco to head past Ewings.

Drogheda equalised again four minutes before the break when Richard Brush could only parry Declan O'Brien's shot and Faz Kuduzovic, who left Sligo for Drogheda just last month, tapped home the rebound.

Rovers regained the lead for the second time right on the break when Rafael Cretaro collected Chris Butler's cross field ball to drill a shot to the far corner of Ewings' net.

In a rollercoaster second half, Drogheda levelled on 88 minutes when Seamus Coleman handled inside the area and Robinson scored emphatically from the spot.

Sligo felt they should have had a last-gasp penalty when Coleman appeared to be tripped inside the area, but referee Padraig Sutton didn't given it with Sean Doherty then ruled offside as he put the loose ball into the net.
