It was Neville’s first domestic game since breaking an ankle against Bolton in March 2007, the England man featuring in a strong United back four.

Michael Carrick was on the bench for the injury-hit Red Devils, while £11m Peter Crouch partnered Jermain Defoe in attack for FA Cup winners Pompey.
