Conor Sammon's late winner got Derry back to winning ways as champions Drogheda all but relinquished their title.

Billed as the game of the night, this was anything but as the sides cancelled each other out early on.

Guy Bates came close to opening the scoring for Drogheda on 29 minutes, but shot over the bar following a flowing move.

And though Drogheda dominated the second half, Derry snatched the only goal on 84 minutes in a counterattack.

Niall McGinn burst forward to cross and Sammon shot home.
