Double injury woe for Gers

Rangers expect to be without Allan McGregor and Lee McCulloch for Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against St Johnstone – and the pair are also doubtful for the UEFA Cup first leg against Fiorentina.

Assistant manager Ally McCoist was still waiting for scan results this lunchtime after goalkeeper McGregor and midfielder McCulloch suffered injuries in the 2-1 defeat against Celtic.

But McCoist expects neither player to be involved this weekend, and their chances of facing Fiorentina in the European semi-final at Ibrox next Thursday appear slim.

On McCulloch, who has a badly swollen foot, McCoist said: “It’s purely my own guess but I would think he would be doubtful for the Fiorentina game.”

Regarding McGregor, who hobbled off towards the end of last night’s match with an ankle injury, McCoist said: “I’m not a medical man but the way he came off suggests he could be struggling for a week or so.”
