Strachan baffled by Hoops run
Celtic manager Gordon Strachan believes his team would be looking ahead to a Scottish Cup semi-final and pushing Rangers hard in the league if their recent performances were fully rewarded.
Strachan claims his team have deserved to win each of their last five matches, but Celtic have managed just one victory â 3-0 against Gretna â during that run.
Their cup hopes were shattered by Aberdeen in a quarter-final replay at Parkhead, and last monthâs defeat to Rangers in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League at Ibrox has contributed to Celticâs slump.
They are seven points behind Rangers, who have a game in hand, in the SPL, and the situation has left Strachan baffled.
âOverall, thereâs absolutely no doubt that we should have won our last five games,â he told Celtic View.
âAnyone with any sense of fairness would agree with that.
âThatâs not skipping around anything. Iâm having difficulty explaining the results to players and they are all sitting scratching their heads.
âThe consoling factor for me at the moment is that I can go on to the training ground on a Monday and say, âI like working with you guys. You are all good football players and you are doing a lot of things rightâ. Unfortunately at this moment in time weâre not winning games.â
Strachanâs side are looking to hit back from their 1-0 defeat at home to Motherwell on Saturday, and will face the same opposition in the SPL this Sunday.
Rangers could not take full advantage of Celticâs latest slip, drawing 3-3 at Dundee United, but Strachan said: âThe other result made it worse for me. I donât take any consolation from that fact that we arenât as far behind as we could have been.â
