Cousin ready to return
Rangers striker Daniel Cousin has targeted a return to action in Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League match against Dundee United.
Cousin, 31, has not played since sustaining a broken jaw in a UEFA Cup tie against Werder Bremen four weeks ago.
After a period of recuperation in his native France after surgery, he hopes to play some part at Tannadice this weekend.
“I am waiting for the doctor to give me the green light to play again but my jaw is feeling a lot better now,” he said.
“I am back in full training and that is good but it still isn’t the same as taking part in matches.
“After speaking to the doctor, he thinks I will be able to play against Dundee United on Sunday.
“I am not going to take any risks as my jaw has to heal properly but, if everything goes according to plan, I can take part in the match at Tannadice.”
Cousin was the subject of a failed January move to Fulham when FIFA blocked the transfer because he had already played for two clubs this season.
The striker has since had a mixed response from Rangers fans but insists he is more than happy to see out the remainder of the campaign at Ibrox.
He told Rangers News: “It is fair to say that 2008 has started quite strangely for me but what happened a few weeks ago is behind me now.
“When I signed for Rangers last August, it wasn’t my plan to stay here for less than six months and then leave.
“I was committed to the team then, just as I am now, but the club received a good offer for me from Fulham.
“The contract they offered interested me as well but, when FIFA said the move couldn’t go through, I was still really happy to stay here.
“I got a varied reaction from the fans after everything that happened. Some backed me and others were against me but that is normal.”
