Richard Brush made stunning saves in each half as Sligo held the champions scoreless at the Showgrounds.

Drogheda, with four changes from last week's defeat to Shamrock Rovers, dominated early on with Shane Robinson bringing a brilliant diving save from Brush from a clever free-kick.

Visiting striker Guy Bates then missed the chance of the first half on 24 minutes when shooting wide when he should have given Drogheda the lead.

Rovers weathered the storm and came close to breaking the deadlock on 39 minutes when Fahrudin Kuduzovic worked a one-two with Romu Boco to force a save from Mikko Vilmunen.

In a tight second half, Brush rescued Sligo again on 67 minutes with a point-blank stop from Eamon Zayed after the Drogheda striker powered through form Graham Gartland's long ball.

But it was Sligo who finished strongly. Kuduzovic came close from an 80th minute free-kick while Matt Judge brought a tip over save from Vilmunen two minutes from time as the sides had to settle for a point.
