Hoops wait on Kennedy tests

Celtic were today awaiting the results of tests carried out on John Kennedy’s left knee after his latest injury cast a shadow over the Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 24-year-old defender had to be replaced just before half-time in the match at Celtic Park, leaving the pitch on a stretcher after an awkward fall.

There were instantly fears he might have suffered a recurrence of the serious knee injury which kept him out of the game for three years.

Reports indicated Kennedy’s latest blow could be only a minor problem, however he was facing more tests today and club officials stressed it was too early to state with confidence how serious the injury is.

While Kennedy waits, Celtic goalkeeper Artur Boruc could require knee surgery sooner than the club had hoped, however he anticipates being able to play in the final Group D match against AC Milan on December.

It was hoped that Boruc could put off surgery until next summer, but the 27-year-old Pole told the Evening Times: “Everything is sore. I need surgery on my knee. I have to have an arthroscopy on it.

“I was going to wait until the end of the season, but now I don’t think I am going to wait that long.

“It’s not really good just now. But hopefully I will be fit for Saturday’s game against Hearts and for the match in Milan.”
