Waterford hold Hoops to stay up for now

A dreadful late miss by Vinny Sullivan deprived Waterford of outright safety at Tolka Park.

With 87 minutes up on referee Pat Whelan's watch, Sullivan looked set to tap-in Willy John Kiely's low cross.

But the stirker took his eye off the ball and completely missed his kick.

It was the clearest opening of a dour match.

The point saw Waterford avoid automatic relegation, but they now must play-off over two legs against the team that wins the First Division play-off between second and third if they are to secure their Premier Division ticket for 2008.
