Simpson extends United contract

Manchester United defender Danny Simpson has committed himself to the club until 2010 by signing a new contract.

The 20-year-old full-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Sunderland along with club-mate Jonny Evans and both men have forced their way into the first-team picture since their return to Old Trafford.

Simpson became Black Cats boss Roy Keane’s first-choice right back, the Eccles-born player making 14 appearances as the Wearsiders surged to the Coca-Cola Championship title.

The former United scholar spent the first four months of last season on loan at Royal Antwerp in Belgium.
