Three clubs chasing Leeds' Cresswell

Leeds have revealed Hull and two other Coca-Cola Championship clubs have made an enquiry about striker Richard Cresswell.

Cresswell, 29, has scored 11 goals in 42 appearances since joining Leeds in August 2005 and will quit the club in the wake of their relegation to League One last season.

A statement on Leeds’ official website, www.leedsunited.com, said: “The club can confirm three Championship clubs have made enquiries about striker Richard Cresswell.

“Hull City are one of the clubs who have made their interest public while two others have also enquired.”

Hull chairman Paul Duffen told the Yorkshire Post: “We are talking to Leeds about Richard. All I can really say is that Richard Cresswell, who is local having been born in Bridlington, is a quality player and just the sort we would be interested in.”

Cresswell told fans at a fans’ function on Thursday night that his agent “is talking to three or four clubs.”

The Tigers have been linked with a number of strikers over the course of the summer, but they have again been warned off a move for Ipswich’s Alan Lee.

Manager Phil Brown had insisted yesterday that their £600,000 bid for the Ireland striker “remains very much on the table” after the Tractor Boys reduced their valuation of the player.

However, opposite number Jim Magilton has insisted that is not the case and that the 28-year-old “will be an Ipswich Town player at the start of the season.”

He said: “Alan was our top goalscorer with 17 last season and is an important part of the squad.

“He has certainly worked hard during the summer and looks sharp so is certainly very much in my plans for the new season.

“We are obviously aware he is in the last year of his contract but the club have been in discussions with him about a new deal and those discussions are ongoing.

“We have not received any more bids for the player and I am delighted about that because it means he will be an Ipswich Town player at the start of the season.”
