Cork waste chances
Cork City 0 Drogheda United 0
Cork missed their injured topscorer Roy O'Donovan dearly as they wasted two glorious chances in a match they dominated.
Despite losing O'Donovan, who pulled up with a hamstring problem in the warm-up, and then fellow striker John O'Flynn with an injury on 35 minutes, Cork were the better side in the first half, creating two good chances.
O'Flynn made the first one on 27 minutes with a determined burst from midfield. He fed the ball to Colin Healy who set-up Leon McSweeney who drilled a shot narrowly wide.
Drogheda keeper Dan Connor then made the stop of the half on 42 minutes, palming out City skipper Dan Murray's header from a Joe Gamble free-kick.
Denis Behan, on for O'Flynn, should have finally made Cork's dominance pay, but missed a sitter on 60 minutes.
McSweeney, picked out by Healy's through ball, put Behan in with only Connor to beat, but the striker shot wide.
Brian Shelley had a late chance for Drogheda, bringing a smart stop out of Michael Devine with a long range drive in stoppage time.
Drogheda now stretch their lead at the top to two points while Cork remain eight behind, though with a game in hand.
