City move for Cavan football ace Mackey
Cork City boss Damien Richardson has invited Cavan senior footballer Cian Mackey to train with the first team later this month.
Richardson has used his close friendship with Monaghan United manager Mick Cooke to get the 20 year-old to train with the Leesiders as they reported back in for training at Bishopstown today.
Mackey plays his soccer on the right-wing for first division Monaghan United.
Meanwhile Alan Bennett who is home on holiday after his Irish debut in America is wanted by Leeds boss Dennis Wise to go on a season-long loan to Elland Road. Bennett, who only joined Reading in January and was one of only three players to play the entire 180 minutes against Ecuador and Bolivia in the States is weighing up his options.
Reading boss Steve Coppell has approved the loan spell to get Bennett first-team football but the final decision rests with the player himself. Other news relating to Cork City is that Charlton’s Alan Pardew has cooled off on Joe Gamble who, like Bennett, played for Ireland in New York and Boston.
Richardson is on his way to Geneva today with Colin Healy and Gareth Farrelly for tomorrow’s personal hearing with FIFA to free the “FIFA Two”.
Dublin-based solicitor, John Kettle is part of the four-man Cork City delegation and the hearing is being funded by English PFA.
