Rovers look to build on gains
Shamrock Rovers will be looking to build on last week's result in Drogheda as they entertain Cork City at Tolka Park, kick-off 8pm.
Rovers are without long-term injury victims Paul Shiels and Eric McGill, and there are doubts about Aidan Price (hamstring), Derek Pender (knee), Ger Rowe (ribs) and Barry Ferguson (knee).
"Paul has had his operation and should be back in about six to eight weeks," said Hoops boss Pat Scully.
"Eric is back doing light jogging, but the others could yet make it for the Cork City game.
"Both Aidan and Derek weren't 100% for the Drogheda game, but we took a chance, it will be a similar situation against Cork. Ger is still recovering from his rib injury while Barry picked up a knock on Friday.
"All four are in with a chance of playing and we'll just have to wait and see how they are when we get a little closer to the game before making any final decisions."
The Rebel Army go into the game having had a week off following their 2-1 win over Bohemians at Turner’s Cross due to Joe Gamble’s selection for the Republic of Ireland tour to the USA.
The only injury absentee for City is Colm Carroll who is continuing his rehabilitation after a cruciate ligament operation.
Brian O’Callaghan is a slight doubt with a groin strain, while fellow centre half Seán Kelly returns to the squad from a fractured cheekbone.
"These are a very important four days for us, as we face into two big games. Shamrock Rovers, as the first of these two games is the most important one for us now and we will need a big performance to get the required result," said City boss, Damien Richardson.
