Howard, who was ineligible for last weekend’s defeat against former club Manchester United, will replace replacing Scotland Under-21 international Iain Turner.

Striker Andrew Johnson is not expected to be involved as he struggles to overcome an ankle injury, while Victor Anichebe is close to a return following an ankle problem.

Provisional squad: Howard, Hibbert, Stubbs, Lescott, Yobo, Naysmith, Valente, Arteta, Carsley, Osman, Fernandes, Neville, Beattie, McFadden, Vaughan, Van der Meyde, Turner, De Silva, Vidarsson.
