Title showdown moved to May

Manchester United’s crucial Premiership showdown with Chelsea has been re-arranged for Wednesday, May 9.

The game was due to be played at Stamford Bridge on April 14 but with both sides qualifying for the FA Cup semi-finals, it was automatically postponed.

Although there had been some suggestion it could be scheduled to a date after the end of the Premier League season on May 13, league officials said the move was not possible.

It means the game, which will be televised by Sky Sports, will now be the second last game of the campaign for both sides meaning that if United continue to maintain their current six-point lead, the title will already be secure because of their vastly superior goal difference.

The Old Trafford club have also confirmed the home clash with Sheffield United, which was due to be played on April 10 but was called off because of the Champions League quarter-final with AS Roma, has been put back to Tuesday, April 17.
