Chelsea kept up the pressure on leaders Manchester United with a solid victory over struggling Sheffield United.

Goals from Andriy Shevchenko, Salomon Kalou and substitute Michael Ballack destroyed United who were hit by the loss of striker Rob Hulse with a suspected broken leg in the first half.

The win, Chelsea’s sixth in succession, left them still six points adrift of United at the top of the Barclays Premiership.
