Paisley secures release

Before a ball is kicked in Flancare Park this season, Longford Town are already in the headlines after losing defender Stephen Paisley, who has secured a release in his contract.

Before a ball is kicked in Flancare Park this season, Longford Town are already in the headlines after losing defender Stephen Paisley, who has secured a release in his contract.

St Patrick's Athletic are the visitors to Flancare on Saturday (kick-off 7.30pm) and coincidentally it may be Richmond Park where Paisley ends up playing his football this season although Derry City and Bohemians are also interested.

Rumours are also rife that manager Alan Mathews is on the verge of handing in his resignation after controversially losing his star player.

Longford are without suspended duo Dessie Baker and new signing Gary Deegan for the season opener, but Mark Rutherford is in line to make his competitive debut for Town.

Pat's are without midfielder Dave Mulcahy and striker Vinny Arkins, but should field a side close to the one that easily beat Portadown in last week's Setanta Sports Cup clash.
