West Brom win Robinson red card appeal

West Brom’s appeal against captain Paul Robinson’s red card in the weekend defeat to Sunderland has been upheld by the Football Association.

West Brom’s appeal against captain Paul Robinson’s red card in the weekend defeat to Sunderland has been upheld by the Football Association.

The Baggies submitted video evidence as part of their case after referee Dermot Gallagher sent off the left-back three minutes from time in the 2-1 Hawthorns reverse.

Robinson was dismissed after being adjudged to have denied Liam Miller an obvious goalscoring opportunity, but replays suggested there was no contact between the players.

And now FA bosses have rescinded the red card.

The successful appeal means Robinson escapes a two-game suspension which would have ruled him out of the Sunday clash with Black Country neighbours Wolves at Molineux as well as the Hawthorns encounter with Crystal Palace three days later.

Albion secretary Dr John Evans said: “Paul was adamant there was no contact and having viewed the video I don’t believe there is evidence to show there was.”
