Three changes for Pardew's Charlton
Alan Pardew made his second visit to Watford this season having seen the club he started the season with, West Ham, draw 1-1 in August.
Now the stakes were far higher with Pardew's Charlton side having thrashed the side that sacked him last week to emerge as the club most likely to climb out of the drop zone.
That remained Watford's aim but last week's 3-0 home loss to Everton had been a severe blow, with manager Adrian Boothroyd bringing in Dan Shittu at the back, Gareth Williams in midfield and Tamas Priskin up front at the expense of Malky Mackay, Darius Henderson and Steve Kabba.
Pardew also made three changes, bringing in striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in place of the injured Marcus Bent and Jonathan Fortune and Osei Sankofa at the back in place of the suspended Souleymane Diawara and Ben Thatcher, who was injured.
