Charge for Jones

Cardiff manager Dave Jones and midfielder Simon Walton have both been charged by the Football Association of Wales after the fiery encounter with Leeds earlier this month.

Jones has been given a disrepute charge over alleged comments he made about referee Mark Clattenburg after the Bluebirds’ 1-0 win over United, during which Walton and Michael Chopra were both sent off.

If Jones is found guilty, the governing body will almost certainly implement a suspended £1,000 (€1,480) fine on the former Southampton and Wolves boss.

He escaped a touchline ban last summer when he accused match referee Andy Woolmer of “cheating” his players after a 3-3 draw at Luton in February 2006.

Walton, who was controversially sent off for two yellow cards, faces a charge of improper conduct for kicking the fourth official’s electronic board as he walked off the pitch.

The referee’s assessor’s report confirmed that the on-loan Charlton man’s dismissal for alleged diving was wrong, but that has not saved him from a charge.

Jones and Walton have 10 days to appeal, but will not know their possible punishment until after that period.
