Blackburn sign Berner

Blackburn have signed Swiss international left-back Bruno Berner from FC Basle.

The 29-year-old is Rovers’ fourth signing during the January transfer window and he moves to Ewood Park on an 18-month deal “for a small transfer fee”, with the club having an option of a further one year.

Berner will be ineligible to play in the UEFA Cup however, having already appeared in the competition for Basle, though he was an unused substitute when the Swiss side played at Blackburn in November.

Berner, who has 16 international caps, began his career with Zurich side Grasshoppers before moving to German side SC Freiburg, returning to Switzerland and Basle at the beginning of last season.
