Newcastle’s woes continued after their midweek FA Cup hammering by Birmingham as West Ham claimed a 2-1 half-time lead at St James’ Park.

The Hammers went ahead when Carlton Cole (19) finished after a corner caused chaos in the home defence and Marlon Harewood turned Peter Ramage to double the lead four minutes later.
