Warnock weilds two new Blades

Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock's bid to safeguard the club's Premiership status has seen him freshen up his squad with two arrivals and one departure.

Jamaica international Luton Shelton has joined from Swedish club Helsingborg for a fee in the region of £2m (€3m), subject to international clearance, with Senegal defender Mamadou Seck signing a two-and-a-half-year deal after his free transfer from Le Havre.

However, striker Neil Shipperley, who has not played for the Blades this season, had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Wigan defender Andy Webster has finally been given the go-ahead to join Rangers on loan by the Scottish Football Association.

The 24-year-old defender had agreed a deal earlier this month but the move was thrown into doubt when it emerged former club Hearts were still in possession of the player's registration.

However, the SFA cancelled Webster's registration with the Tynecastle club after consultation with FIFA.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws made his first permanent signing of the January transfer window by securing Wolves striker Leon Clarke on a two-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.

"I believe Leon will be a great acquisition to the team," said Laws. "He gives me a different option up front to those we currently have, which will enable me to change things when required."
