Rosicky 'can keep up midfield goals supply'

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Tomas Rosicky can follow in the footsteps of some of his club’s previous free-scoring midfielders.

Wenger’s decade at Arsenal has seen many fluent goalscorers in that department, such as Marc Overmars, David Platt, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg.

Wenger believes Rosicky can add his name to the list, after watching him score two of the Gunners’ goals in their 3-1 FA Cup win over Liverpool on Saturday.

Rosicky’s double ended a four-month goal drought for the midfielder and he will be hoping for a repeat performance when Arsenal return to Anfield for their rearranged Carling Cup quarter-final tonight.

Wenger said: “He can be like Ljungberg and Pires. Together they scored 25 goals a season and that is worth a lot of points.

“Rosicky can score more goals because he is quick. He has good timing and he is very accurate in his finishing. I think he puts too much pressure on himself to finish and he sometimes rushes his decision-making. I hope this will help him to be more calm in front of goal.”
