Fredrik Ljungberg, Julio Baptista and Theo Walcott will also start in place of Philippe Senderos, Alexander Hleb, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie – the latter three named as substitutes.

Wigan will make two changes, with Emile Heskey back from a one-match ban in place of David Cotterill – on the bench – while Denny Landzaat replaces the suspended Paul Scharner.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland also starts, despite suffering a slight concussion following a clash of heads with team-mate David Wright in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Middlesbrough.

Subs: Pollitt, Jackson, Johansson, Cotterill, Todorov.
