Play-off finalists Dundalk and Waterford United have both been excluded from the new 12-team top flight announced yesterday.

Victors Dundalk have complained that the two-leg relegation/promotion battle has been rendered meaningless by the announcement.

However, Delaney says the entry criteria were drawn up by the clubs themselves and Dundalk and Waterford were both aware that the play-off would have no bearing on the Premiership make-up.
