Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill has no doubts about Henrik Larsson’s fitness as his former charge prepares for a move to Manchester United at 35.

O’Neill inherited Larsson at Celtic with the Swede having been brought to Glasgow from Feyenoord three years earlier by then Parkhead manager Wim Jansen.

O’Neill is backing Larsson, whose first Premiership match could come against Villa on January 13, to be a success at Old Trafford.

He said: “United are involved in all fronts and you will need every able-bodied player and with Henrik I wouldn’t start worrying about his age.

“He is naturally fit, he keeps himself in fantastic condition and United know exactly what they are getting.

“I worked with him for a number of years and I was delighted with him. He scored a lot of goals for us and he was an excellent player.

“Not a thing surprises me in football. If Manchester United come calling, you might fancy it as a player.”
