Wayne Rooney scored his sixth goal of the season as Manchester United were forced to hit back against lowly Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Winger Keith Gillespie stunned the visitors by opening the scoring with a 13th-minute header following a superb cross from Nicky Law on his full debut.

But sandwiching two dismissed penalty appeals from referee Mark Clattenburg, Rooney fired home the equaliser on the half-hour.
