Gough thinking of comeback at 44

Former Rangers captain Richard Gough could be in line for a comeback at the age of 44.

The ex-Livingston boss has been training with Partick Thistle to keep up his fitness as he seeks a return to management.

Jags manager Dick Campbell now wants to see him in match action to judge whether or not he can play in the First Division.

Campbell said: “He called last month and asked to use our training facilities and I was happy to oblige.

“At that stage there was no more to it but Walter Smith told me that Goughie would soon be pestering me for a game and he was right.

“He’s looked good in training and joins in with the first team in practice games.

“I just love the fact that he still wants to play. He has a natural enthusiasm.

“I’ll be having a serious look at him over the next few weeks because we could certainly use his experience.

“However, I want to see how he goes against other opposition before we go any further.

“I want to make sure he’s still okay for this level, for his sake as much as ours.”

The former Scotland international’s last competitive game was for Everton in April 2001.
