Rijkaard: No more slip-ups
Frank Rijkaard admits Barcelona cannot afford to make another mistake if they are to reach the knock-out phase of the Champions League.
Rijkaard’s European champions have five points from four games and have dropped out of the Group A qualifying places after last night’s 2-2 draw at home to Chelsea.
Didier Drogba equalised in the third minute of added time to leave the Catalans trailing behind Chelsea and Werder Bremen.
Barca boss Rijkaard said: “There’s no margin for error now. We have to beat both teams and win our last two games. We just have to do it.
“We played a good match and showed a good attitude and the public recognised that.
“Chelsea played very well and created chances. They are a strong team. They play very hard.”
Rijkaard stormed onto the pitch after the final whistle to confront referee Stefano Farina.
The Dutch coach had to be dragged away by his captain Carles Puyol and then spat angrily on the grass.
He was fuming because Farina called for six minutes of stoppage-time and only played five.
Rijkaard said: “He blew up one minute before he should have done but I’m not blaming that for the result.
“It was a battle on the pitch and it was interesting during the game and I went on because I wanted to thank the referee for his participation.”
Deco had given Barcelona the lead in the third minute but it was cancelled out by Frank Lampard’s chip from the tightest after half-time.
Eidur Gudjohnsen then scored for Barca against his old club before Drogba slid home the winner in the closing moments.
Jose Mourinho performed an elaborate celebration when Drogba’s shot beat Victor Valdes in the Barca goal.
The Chelsea manager had been taunted all night by the Nou Camp crowd, who sang “Mourinho, go to the theatre”, mocking his claims that Barca playmaker Lionel Messi is an “actor”.
Rijkaard said: “I was surprised by his reaction. Obviously he was happy. It makes no sense for me to comment on him.
“I think the crowd were fair enough. It shows a good sense of humour. There was no abuse. I think that’s fun.”
After the game, Mourinho criticised Barca’s players for intimidating referee Farina by exaggerating fouls and and trying to force him into showing cards.
Farina booked 10 players, including six from Chelsea.
Barcelona can still qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League if they win their final two games – away to Levski Sofia and at home to Werder Bremen.
