Misery continues for Waterford

Alan Kirby scored against his home town club as Longford came from behind to stun Waterford who remain bottom of the table.

Waterford started well, forcing four corners and two goal-line clearances inside the opening seven minutes.

But when they did deservedly take the lead on 26 minutes it was from the penalty spot.

Paul McCarthy was taken down by Kevin Doherty and Ger McCarthy, who’d had a goal disallowed for offside minutes earlier, beat Shay Kelly from the spot.

A goalkeeping error gifted Longford, scarcely in the match, their equaliser on 59 minutes.

Ben Spicer spilled Dave Mooney’s drive and midfielder Davy Byrne followed up to scoop home the rebound.

Kirby then won it on 77 minutes when Blues failed to deal with Steven Gough’s corner and the winger side footed home from 16 yards.
