Coppell named manager of month

Reading manager Steve Coppell has been named Barclays manager of the month for September after lifting the promoted side into the Premiership’s top half.

The Royals kick-started their first top-flight campaign with successive wins over Manchester City and Sheffield United followed by a home draw against Manchester United.

Everton’s former Crystal Palace striker Andrew Johnson has been awarded the player of the month prize.

Johnson, who joined the Toffees in an £8.6million deal in the summer, scored four goals in as many games including a double in a Merseyside derby win over Liverpool.
