France hit five past Faroes

France moved level on points with Euro 2008 qualifying Group B leaders Scotland, after a 5-0 trouncing of the Faroe Islands in Sochaux tonight.

Substitute David Trezeguet scored twice to add to efforts from Barclays Premiership-based trio Louis Saha, Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka, who also came off the bench.

FYR Macedonia followed up their weekend embarrassment of England with a 3-0 victory away to 10-man Andorra

In good heart following Saturday’s unexpected 0-0 Group E draw at Old Trafford, Macedonia were soon in charge against the minnows thanks to first-half goals from Goran Pandev, Nikolce Noveski and Ilco Naumoski.

The Andorrans, minus Toni Sivera who was sent off for violent conduct in the 25th minute, have conceded 19 goals in just four qualifying matches so far.

Russia scored their first Group E victory thanks to goals by substitutes Pavel Pogrebniak and Dmitri Sychev which earned Guus Hiddink's side a 2-0 win over Estonia in St Petersburg.

Pogrebniak volleyed home from close range 12 minutes from time, before Sychev made matters safe with a clinical 22-yard strike in stoppage time.

In Group G, there was also a first victory tonight for Belarus, who won a thrilling match against Slovenia 4-2 in Minsk.

Denis Kovba gave the hosts the lead, before goals from defender Bostjan Cesar and Klemen Lavric put Slovenia in front at half-time.

There were then two second-half goals from Sergey Kornilenko, however, and another from substitute Vladimir Korytko wrapped up a memorable comeback for the home side.

In Group A, Finland captain Jari Litmanen led the way as his team bounced back from their weekend embarrassment with a convincing 2-0 win in Kazakhstan.

Jon Dahl Tomasson scored twice as Denmark secured a 4-0 victory over Liechtenstein in Group F.

Daniel Jensen and Michael Gravgaard also netted during the first half as the Danes bounced back from their disappointing draw against Northern Ireland.

Champions Greece maintained a perfect start to their qualifying campaign with a 4-0 victory over 10-man Bosnia-Herzegovina in Zenica.

Goals from Angelos Charisteas, Christos Patsatzoglou, Manchester City striker Georgios Samaras and Kostas Katsouranis secured maximum points in Greece’s third successive Group C match.

The hosts were reduced to 10 men just after half-time when Sasa Papac was dismissed for manhandling Bolton’s Stelios Giannakopoulos.

In the same group, Moussa Dembele scored and was then sent off as 10-man Belgium eased to a 3-0 win against Azerbaijan in Brussels.

Timmy Simons opened the scoring from the spot in the first half, before Kevin Vandenbergh made it two a minute after the restart.

Dembele bagged a third with eight minutes remaining but took the gloss off Belgium’s second win of the campaign when he was dismissed for violent conduct.
