Franz Beckenbauer will be standing for the role as Bayern Munich president once again at the club’s Annual General Meeting in November.

The 61-year-old confirmed his candidacy at a sponsor’s engagement in Nurnberg yesterday.

He revealed that his designated successor Uli Hoeness will remain the general manager of the club for the time being, and decide himself when he feels ready to step up to board level.

When that happens, Beckenbauer, who was president of the organisation committee for the 2006 World Cup, can envisage working closer with FIFA to promote German and European football.

Beckenbauer has also been named as a candidate for the UEFA presidency when Lennart Johansson decides to step down.

The man known as the Kaiser has been president of Bayern Munich since 1994, while Hoeness has held his role since 1979.
