Goals from Brazilian internationals Cris and Juninho were sufficient for Gerard Houllier’s side who could lose top spot to Marseille on Sunday.

Juninho’s deflected free-kick, which struck the Troyes wall, was the 30th free-kick he has netted for the club hunting a sixth consecutive French title.

Lille were held 1-1 by Nantes who are still looking for their first win of the season.

Nice remain firmly planted on the bottom of Ligue 1 after Bordeaux got back to winning ways at their expense with a 3-2 triumph.

Sedan held St Etienne 2-2, Lens won 3-0 against Valenciennes, promoted Lorient drew 1-1 at Le Mans, Rennes won 2-1 against Sochaux and Auxerre won 2-1 at home to Monaco.
