United lead by Giggs goal at the break

The lightning reactions of evergreen Welshman Ryan Giggs gave Manchester United a half-time lead in their closely-fought Premiership clash with Tottenham.

Giggs was quickly on the scene when Paul Robinson failed to hold Cristiano Ronaldo’s brutal eighth-minute free-kick, nodding home off the underside of the bar.

However, Spurs could count themselves unlucky to be behind at the interval, with Edwin van der Sar forced to produce a superb double save to deny Michael Dawson and returning visitors skipper Ledley King to preserve the lead.
