Derry capped a perfect week with this all-too-comfortable win to move into second place in the table, a point behind Shelbourne with a game in hand.

Gary Beckett drilled home a Sean Hargan cross after 19 minutes to put Derry in the driving seat against managerless Blues.

A blunder by Blues’ keeper Ben Spicer, who spilled Ruardhí Higgins’ free kick, gifted Derry their second four minutes before the break when Darren Kelly scooped home the loose ball for his first goal on his return to the Brandywell.

Kevin McHugh sealed Derry’s win on 65 minutes when heading home his first league goal for the club from Kevin Deery’s corner.

Substitute Ciaran Martyn completed the rout with a fourth goal seven minutes from time when he thumped the ball home from just inside the area.
