Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has undergone shoulder surgery following the Czech Republic’s World Cup exit.

The 24-year-old opted to have an operation, described by Chelsea as “routine”, following his country’s elimination after the group stages.

“The operation was successful and lasted more than two hours. Petr feels well,” said Petr Travnicek, the player’s media spokesman.

“Petr will have a rest and intensive rehabilitation in the following weeks.”
