England trio return to training

England were boosted by the return to training of skipper David Beckham, John Terry and Gary Neville during their first session at their Mittelberg training camp in Buhlertal.

But defender Ashley Cole was still absent with the thigh injury suffered during Saturday’s 6-0 victory over Jamaica at Old Trafford.

Neville had been absent from that game with a hamstring injury but took part in the warm-up along with Beckham and Terry who looked as if they had recovered from slight ankle and knee setbacks.

There was a first sight on German soil of Wayne Rooney who played a full part in a 20-minute workout before undergoing further rehabilitation work with England’s medical staff and physios.

Sven-Goran Eriksson will be hoping Rooney can rejoin his team-mates later in the week although that will depend on the result of the scan he will undertake in Manchester tomorrow on his broken metatarsal.

England opened the doors of the training session to the general public and several hundred children watched Beckham and co being put through their paces.
