Shels see off Bangor
Bangor Celtic 1 Shelbourne 3
Shelbourne had to wait until the 82nd minute to kill off tenacious LSL champions Bangor as they were made to battle all the way into the third round of the FAI Carlsberg Cup.
Shels looked to have ended the game as a contest with two quick-fire goals midway through he first half. Skipper Owen Heary tapped home Colin Hawkins’s knock down from Liam Kearney's 27th minute corner for the lead.
Davy Rogers did well to cross in from the left for Jason Byrne to add the second two minutes later.
But Bangor fought back in the second half and Brian Warren pulled a goal back when following up to tap home after Laurence Dunne’s shot came back off a post.
Substitute Victor Reid gave Shels further jitters when he clipped the post on 80 minutes before Stuart Byrne sealed Shels safe passage when heading home Rogers’ cross.
