Detectives investigating an alleged assault of a teenage girl by Premiership footballer Craig Bellamy have submitted a file to the British Crown Prosecution Service, it emerged today.

The Blackburn and Wales striker was arrested by South Wales Police in March after a 19-year-old claimed he struck her at the Number 10 nightclub in Cardiff on February 5 this year.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: “Officers investigating the alleged assault involving a 26-year-old man on February 5 have submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration.

“We are waiting to hear back from them before we proceed any further with the case.”
