Sligo and Shels share the spoils

Conor O’Grady’s first goal of the season earned Sligo a point to maintain their unbeaten home record and prevent Shelbourne from regaining a share of second place in the table.

Shels survived an amazing triple let off on three minutes when Rovers' skipper Michael McNamara and then Paul McTiernan had efforts stopped on the line before Keith Foy crashed a 25 yard drive off the bar.

Having weathered that, Shels took the lead on eight minutes when Gary O’Neill was left unmarked to head home Jason Byrne’s free-kick for his third goal in successive matches.

But Rovers were excellent for much of the first half and hit back on 16 minutes when O’Grady, who had a shot cleared off the line a minute earlier, volleyed home from ten yards.

Shels had much the better of the second half with Jason Byrne’s flick header shaving the bar before the excellent Alan Moore rattled a post two minutes from time.
