SPL seek new sponsor

The Scottish Premier League are looking for a new sponsor after it was announced that Bank of Scotland are not to renew their title sponsorship agreement beyond the term of the existing deal.

The contract has 14 months left to run, drawing to a close at the end of May 2007.

Bank of Scotland have been title sponsors of the league since March 1999.

Lex Gold, executive chairman of the SPL, said: “We have enjoyed an excellent relationship with Bank of Scotland since our inaugural season.

“It is a partnership that has benefited both parties.

“The media exposure that the bank have received by being involved with the SPL is set to hit a record level this season.

“The bank’s commitment over the years has also helped develop football-related initiatives from which communities across Scotland have benefited.

“Interest in our league, at home and abroad, is extremely healthy and we now have 14 months to plan for, and to secure, a new title sponsor for our clubs.”

A Bank of Scotland spokesman said: “We have had a productive relationship with the SPL and are very pleased with our sponsorship.

“Having sponsored the SPL from the beginning, we feel the time is right for another partner to come on board.”
