The Senegal international hammered an eighth-minute volley past Kelvin Davis, who later kept out an equally spectacular Lee McCulloch effort, as Wigan won just their second Barclays Premiership game in 10 attempts.

Kevin Ball’s side had their chances with Stephen Elliott and Rory Delap both forcing first-half saves from John Filan while substitute Jon Stead shot wide in the last minute – but they are still waiting for a first league win of the season at the Stadium of Light.
