Eriksson: England door not closed

England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson insists “the door is open” for fringe players to earn a place at this summer’s World Cup.

England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson insists “the door is open” for fringe players to earn a place at this summer’s World Cup.

The Swede, who will step down after the tournament in Germany, has “no idea” who will succeed him in the future and admits he has no interest in who takes on the role.

Ahead of England’s friendly against Uruguay, Eriksson admitted he will continue scouting players for his World Cup squad.

“The World Cup squad is announced in May so of course there is time,” he told a press conference broadcast by Sky Sports News.

“This is the last game (before the final preparation friendlies) but after that I’ll be going round to see matches as usual.

“In May we don’t know who will have injuries. The door is open to any English players.”
