Moyes makes Hiddink appeal

Everton boss David Moyes has pleaded with Australia coach Guus Hiddink not to use Tim Cahill in Sunday’s friendly against Jamaica at Craven Cottage.

Moyes has conceded midfielder Cahill must be released for the match, despite wanting his jaded player to take a two-break break.

He refused to let Cahill join up with Hiddink’s squad for a training camp in Holland this week, as Moyes was permitted to do under FIFA rules.

But he is obliged to release the former Millwall player 48 hours before the Jamaica match.

Moyes is disappointed with Australian complaints about his policy, particularly as Cahill has appeared in the Olympic, World Cup and Confederation Cup matches in the past three years, as well as most of their qualifying matches.

“I have spoken to Guus Hiddink and I thnk we have made our feelings known,” said Moyes.

“Everton will benefit from Tim having a break at this stage of the season and the Australian national team will [benefit] long-term. We hope they respect our wishes.”
